Wideband Lambda Sensors
Im Gegensatz zu Sprung-Lambdasonden kann die Breitband-Lambdasonde nicht durch einfaches Auswerten der Ausgangsspannung betrieben werden.
Breitband-Lambdasonden benötigen zwei Regelkreise: die Temperaturregelung und die Lambda-1-Regelung der Mess-Kavität. Als Resultat der Regelkreise bekommt man einen Pumpstrom zwischen äußerer Pumpelektrode (APE) und innerer Pumpelektrode (IPE).
This pump current transports oxygen ions into or out of the measuring cavity. The pump current can then be converted into the oxygen content or lambda value.

Interfacing with the Outside World
The lambda transducer handles the control loops and the conversion of the values, then outputs the oxygen content or lambda value as an easy-to-use current or voltage signal (4–20 mA or 0–10 V). 
These signals can then be easily processed by external controllers, such as a PLC.

The lambda transducer also ensures sensor-friendly operation and provides fault diagnostics for the lambda sensor.
