Knowledge Base

Lambda sensors are small components with a big impact—they provide the readings that every combustion control system relies on. But how do they actually work, what sets narrowband and wideband lambda sensors apart, and what does a transducer do with their signals? In our Knowledge Base, we explain the technical fundamentals in a clear, practical way—for anyone who wants to understand the technology behind our products.

Lambda sensors

From oxygen content to lambda value: Learn how narrowband and wideband lambda sensors are built, how finger-type and planar sensing elements differ, and which Bosch sensor types are available. Plus: suitable alternatives to the discontinued LSM 11.

Transducers

Why isn't a simple voltage measurement enough for wideband lambda sensors? The lambda transducer handles both temperature control and lambda = 1 control, converts the pump current into a usable signal (4–20 mA or 0–10 V), and ensures sensor-friendly operation and fault diagnostics.
